Staten Island Yankees vs Aberdeen Iron Birds

Students & Parents !

Today grades 1-7 went to the Staten Island Yankees game. I'm sure most of the parents have heard but it was hot. The moment students stepped out of the van, I heard voices complaining about the weather constantly.

I was also very surprised to see a lot of different groups of children at the event as well. There were other summer schools from the brooklyn, a school for emotionally disturbed students from the bronx, and others from New Jersey. It was crowded, packed, and overwhelming to some degree.

Because of the weather and the amount of people at the game, the staff had to be extra careful and alert. We were constantly moving and taking the students to get water and food. But the students were just as tired and exhausted as we were. From sitting on the chairs that were absorbing the heat of the sun to climbing up  the stairs to get to the rest room. It was hard for me to just watch the students sweating through their shirts and hats.

However, when we did get back to the church students claimed to have a good time. I was reluctant to believe them at first but it occurred to me that this was still a memory that we all wouldn't be able to forget!

Week 3 of Summer School

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend!

Last Friday, the students of third grade class went to the Pascack Valley Swim Club! I wasn't able to take as many pictures as I would have liked. The teachers, teacher's assistants, and volunteers were all having too much fun playing with the students and enjoying fellowship. But we will be returning to the swim club this Friday. So please make sure to pack a lunch for your child this Friday! Please do not forget (:

This Wednesday, students will be going on a field trip to watch the Staten Island Yankee's game. Students will be going there as soon as worship ends early in the morning. There will be an all you can you hot dog and burger event at the baseball game. Please do not pack a lunch!

It was so exciting to see the third graders again today! For electives today, we had Science as well as cooking class. During the first half of the science class we learned about, "Tangrams". A tangram is a puzzle made up of shapes. Students just spent time combining them into different arrangements to make different patterns. During the second half of the class, we spent time making & playing with "Oobleckh". Oobleckh is a mixture of cornstarch and water. When students dipped their finger into the gooey mixture, students observed that it felt liquidy. However, when they grabbed it with their hands, it felt solid. Students had so much fun and really enjoyed the experiment!

During Cooking Class, we had to come up with a cookie recipe to bake as a class. Each grade had to bake cookies and bring it to the 3 Pastors to be judged. We decided to make Sugar Cookies! The third graders enjoyed observing and molding the cookies into shapes they each desired! After we were done baking, we were able to eat and enjoy our cookies before the day ended! Please enjoy the pictures located below!

Second Week of Summer School

Dear Parents,

It amazes me how the second week of summer school is already coming to an end... There are only four more weeks of Summer School left. At the first day of orientation, Pastor Rana stated that by the end of the six weeks, many of us will have a tough time saying good bye to our students. At first, I was determined to believe that, that wouldn't be the case for me because it's hard to say goodbye. However, I slowly feel myself wanting to love these children more and more each day. I had a glimpse of how God views each and every student in our class as well as the others in the summer school.

This week, our class has been able to go to Art class for the first time! We drew and painted our own personal experiences at a zoo. It was amazing to see how creative and artistic the 3rd grade class was. We also had music class. Students watched a movie and had a review on all different kinds of percussion instruments. We also went to the Old Tappan Public Library and spent some time reading. Here are some pictures from Wednesday and Thursday! Enjoy!
